Episode 3: Tears of Valhalla Empty Episode 3: Tears of Valhalla

This will be the first in the four part 'Reticulum Arc' story.

Tears of Valhalla will be a story which will have tonnes of opportunity for getting creative, both amongst our own player characters and with the NPC characters from the SS Valhalla.

Here's the basic plot as it stands right now:

Redemption receives a distress call, strangely as an old Radio Transmission from a certain SS Valhalla. The message describes a space storm that has crippled the ship's power, threatening total systems failure if help isn't received soon.

We answer the call and discover an ancient Pre-Federation Conestoga class colony ship - one that is larger than others of it's known class. Curiously, scans of the ship don't pick up anything at all - as if it isn't really there.

An away team is sent to offer assistance, meeting with Captain Eduardo Vasquez and his small crew of Spacers - who are responsible for an ambitious colonisation project involving over 500 civilians bound for Gliese 581g. No record of such a mission or ship can be found in Redemption's historical database.

Valhalla's crew is unaware of the disaster to come as an Apocalyptic Cult that infiltrated the colonist group stages a coup, taking hostages in various parts of the ship. They demand Valhalla change course to the Reticulum system so that their souls may be joined with their Star Brothers before the human race is consumed by 'The Nightmare Teeth'  - something cult members are tormented with in their dreams.

Captain Vasquez is adamant that they not go to that system - emphatically stating that 'No one goes to Reticulum'. The stand-off becomes grows until an accident sparks fighting between the spacers and Cultists.

The Cult discovers the more advanced Redemption and see it as the 'new conveyance'. They plot to destroy Valhalla and take over Redemption instead.

During the stand-off information is finally released that the Valhalla was a private venture that went missing in 2069. A space-time fissure is detected, a vast one that currently has Redemption AND Valhalla inside...

During the fighting Valhalla's core is critically destabilised. Redemption learns the fissure is an unstable Temporal Causality loop which is activated by antimatter explosion. If Valhalla is repeating history, the ship's destruction could trap Redemption with her -dooming them both to repeat these events for all eternity.

Interference from the now heavily active fissure makes Transporter use hazardous.  With time running out, the away team must be rescued and Redemption must escape the fissure.

So, with that as our basic framework, lets build up some really cool ideas to flesh it out and bring it to life!

Lol!! It's your quarters!

What we do need to think about is characters on the Valhalla, small side stories we can create that will give some life and depth to the sim

Im going to make Captain Vasquez a bit of a haunted fellow, who has volunteered for the Valhalla mission more out of a desire to run away from the despair and heartache that is his life on Earth. It's not been that long since the Third World War ended (Valhalla was launched in early 2069), he lost his entire family when San Diego - along with pretty much every major city in the US - was heavily nuked during the war's climax.

The Cult leader is obviously a controlling nutjob...

Anybody want to play with some of Vasquez's crew or passengers?
